Who is AOWC

The Association of War Zone Contractors (AOWC) is a nonprofit corporation that has applied for its 501(c)3 status with the IRS (approval pending).

We are the first organization established explicitly to support and advocate for the rights and interests of civilian contractors who deploy alongside U.S. troops to war zones, contingency environments, and U.S. military facilities around the world.

Contractors are an incredibly diverse population that come from all over the world to provide critical support functions for our troops, handling everything from building and maintaining housing to preparing and serving meals, moving supplies, servicing equipment and cleaning portable toilets, to training host nation forces and providing security. These services are fully integrated with the day-to-day function of our military and put contractors in the same environment, facing many of the same risks as our troops.

This massive civilian workforce is effectively an invisible army that doubles if not triples the footprint of the U.S. military in all overseas operations. But few in the public know about these workers, the risks they face, or how they continue to pay for their service with life-altering injuries and illnesses long after their employment ends.

AOWC will be the leading voice to advocate for contractors’ rights and interests and ensure they receive the support and the benefits they are owed.

Founded by contractors, for contractors, AOWC is committed to ensuring that U.S. military contractors are seen, heard, protected, and counted.
