Leadership

Cory Archibald

President

Growing up in a military family and raised overseas, Cory was bitten by the Expat Bug early in life. After spending her formative years in Germany and later graduating from the University of Montevallo, Cory was working 2 jobs in Atlanta when she answered the call and took a job in Iraq in 2004 to support our troops. From 2004 to 2014, she worked in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan, primarily supporting LOGCAP missions in Health, Safety & Environmental and training roles.

After leaving Afghanistan in 2014, Cory’s career shifted into the start-up world and oil & gas. Shaped by her experiences overseas, she became deeply invested in advocacy work, volunteering for many political campaigns and causes while practicing her specialties of training, project management, communications, and crisis management for the corporate sector.

Since 2020 Cory has worked full time as a communications and crisis management consultant for political candidates, PACs, 501c3s and 501c4s. She has advised nearly 200 candidates for federal office including multiple sitting members of Congress. Cory is passionate about policy development and worker advocacy. After working 20 years in the Middle East, Cory and her husband now live in Germany where he continues to work as a military contractor.

Board of Directors

Scott Dillard

Chair

Scott graduated from West Point in 2001, and then served both as a Soldier and civilian contractor in the post-9/11 “Global War on Terrorism.” As a Soldier, Scott first led combat infantry units in Iraq, and then later in Afghanistan helped military units obtain contracted service support. From 2010 - 2016, Scott worked as a war zone contractor on a multi-billion dollar LOGCAP contract that provided Base Life Support services to the U.S. military in Afghanistan.

Since hanging up the boots for good in 2016, Scott has remained interested in and focused on the roles of corporate contractors on the battlefield. This interest led to the realization that there aren’t any organizations dedicated to serving and advocating for the collective rights and interests of the actual people doing the work. So, he re-connected with some old colleagues and recruited some new ones to form the Association of War Zone Contractors.

His day job focuses on the individual rights and interests of war zone contractors who were injured or became sick because of their work supporting the U.S. military. He does this through Know Your Expat Rights (KYER, LLC), which helps sick or injured contractors obtain benefits they may be owed.

Darrell Ball

Director

Darrell’s 40-year career in the Engineering and Construction industry was marked significantly by his tenure as a military contractor from 2005 to 2010. His work under contracts like LOGCAP IV and the IRAQ PMO Sector Rebuilding, along with other classified projects, took him across conflict zones including Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Afghanistan. This experience honed his professional skills fixing complex problems in high-stress environments, where solutions are often determined by limited resources and unusual risks.

Darrell’s time as a contractor also opened his eyes to the unique challenges and lasting impacts faced by civilian workers in war zones. Darrell joined the board of AOWC to leverage his insights and experiences to advocate for those who have served in such environments but remain without adequate support. Darrell is committed to ensuring war zone contractors are counted and supported both during and after their employment.

With roots in rural Kentucky, today Darrell splits his time between his home in North Dakota and his work in Omaha, NE. Darrell enjoys traveling with his wife and holds certifications as a private pilot and scuba diver. But most of all, he cherishes his role as a grandfather to five grandchildren.
